Tires
Test your tire know-how
1. On icy or snow-covered roads, it’s wise to:
a. Let about 10-15 pounds of air pressure out of the tires and
drive at normal speeds.
b. Reduce driving speed but maintain correct air pressure
c. Reduce pressure by no more than ten pounds and reduce speed.

2. The rhythmic thumping of a tire indicates:
a. It needs a new valve.
b. The tread may be worn to the “wear bars.”
c. An out-of-balance condition has worn a flat spot on the tread surface.

3. Rotating tires from front to rear, side to side
a. Can extend tire life by 10%.
b. Can extend tire life by 20%.
c. Doesn’t affect tire life but it causes more even tread wear.

4. Hydroplaning, a phenomenon that occurs while driving in the rain
(tires ride up on a film of water, causing loss of traction), is caused by:
a. Worn tire tread.
b. Poor wheel alignment.
c. Driving too slowly for conditions.
